Hello Specktacular Speck Supporters!

The ALS Association (ALSA) is having a nationwide fundraising walk, The Walk to Defeat ALS, and the Sacramento Chapter is hosting a walk on October 17th at William Land Park in Sacramento.

I have created an online fundraising team to walk/donate in support of Cathy Speck and her family. The team is called The Specktaculars. I have set the fundraising goal at $1,000.

The ALS Association has been tremendously helpful to Cathy and many other people in her situation. They help connect people with information, resources, and clinical services. Their support groups help ALS patients and their families cope with the daily challenges of living with ALS, and inform them of available community services. The ALS Association funds ALS research. There is no cure yet.

Here are some ways that you can participate:

JOIN THE TEAM
It's FREE and you don't have to walk with us in October to join the team. You can sign up to be a "virtual walker" and your name will show up on the team page. You can create a personal fundraising page if you like--the ALSA site will walk you through the process when you join the team.

Here's how to join:

There's a box in the bottom left corner that lists team members. At the top of the box there's a red bar. Next to "The Specktaculars" it says "Join Team." Click on "Join Team" and the ALSA site will walk you through the process.

DONATE
I'm still trying to figure out how a person can donate directly to the team rather than going through an individual's page, but right now you can donate by:
1. Go to The Specktaculars team page: http://web.alsa.org/goto/specktaculars
2. Click on someone's name on the team roster
3. Click on "Make a Gift!" at the bottom of the thermometer on that team member's personal page.

It can take awhile for your donation to show up on the site, so don't be alarmed if it doesn't show up right away.
